We believe that bookstores play a vital role in providing the books that enrich our lives, but also as community spaces for dialogue and literary events. In 2005 Vox Pop published his book Rebel Bookseller: How To Improvise Your Own Indie Store And Beat Back The Chains.
A second edition entitled Rebel Bookseller: Why Indie Businesses Represent Everything You Want to Fight for—from Free Speech to Buying Local to Building Communities came out in July 2011 from Seven Stories Press.
In addition to his writing, Laties has spoken on the current state of independent publishing. He also presented a lecture titled “Indie Bookstores Still Count: What We Can Do For Publishers, and What Publishers Can Do For Us” at the Digital Book World 2011 conference. He currently runs Book and Puppet bookstore in Easton, PA.
Karen Lillis is the author of four short novels, most recently, Watch the Doors as They Close (Spuyten Duyvil Novella Series). The Nervous Breakdown raved about the book: “One of the finest pieces of independent literature of 2012, Lillis has broken the mold of the classic New York City love story.” With sharp insight and black humor, Lillis’ fiction and narrative nonfiction tell vivid tales of wage-slave bohemia, disaster romances, artistic ambitions, and characters who got left behind by the American dream. She has been a writer-in-residence at Shakespeare and Company Bookstore in Paris and is at work on a memoir of her years behind the register at St. Mark’s Bookshop in New York. Darrell Parry is an artist, poet, writer, and event host in the Lehigh Valley. He brings his experiences in book sales to the discussion, and the perspective of working in a college book store.
Facilitated by E.Lynn Alexander. Lynn spent years producing content for Full of Crow Press, with online poetry and fiction and printed chapbooks. She is the editor of Fashion For Collapse, a small press associated with Full of Crow and the founding organizer of Lehigh Valley Poetry. A long time bookmaker, zine collector, and organizer, she also hosts local area poetry events including Tuesday Muse and the Lehigh Valley Poetry Salon.
