We are hosting an online virtual poetry salon and open mic, on Monday evenings at 8:30 PM EST. Host Lynn Alexander will do her best with the “virtual open mic” where poets and creatives of all kinds are encouraged to share. We would also like to chat about poetry happenings, your books, your projects, and what is going on in the poetry community because community is important.
We will be using the zoom platform, which gives you the option to use either a phone, tablet, computer, dial in, either with or without camera. If you’d like to just listen or talk by phone, that works too.
All of these virtual salons are listed with details under “events” on the Lehigh Valley Poetry facebook page. We also have a facebook group, Lehigh Valley Poets. You are welcome to join and get involved.
The schedule, to be interpreted loosely, is below. We don’t know how long we will be living under the Covid 19 precautions, but it has been suggested that this format is a good thing even when we can emerge from our homes and gather in person. Virtual formats offer another way for people to access our community, who might not otherwise be able to get to events due to transportation, accessibility, child care, and other limitations. This allows us to meet independent of geography and limits, to check in with each other. This seems like an important thing and maybe it will continue. Let us know what you think. Mondays, 8:30 PM EST.

Monday May 4: Lehigh Valley Poetry Virtual Salon and Open Mic
This week brings May Day, the beginning of Spring, but also International Workers Day and Labor Day- promoting workers’ rights and international peace. This day celebrates workers and labor, and Haymarket occurred on May 4. What better day to talk about working class poetry, poetry as a “job”, class, economics, poetry about these topics, poet as activist, your choose. Or not. You are welcome to chat, or just listen, or just participate in the open mic that follows our informal banter. All welcome.
Monday May 18: Lehigh Valley Poetry Virtual Salon and Open Mic
Poetry check in. We don’t know how long we will be inside, social distancing. But we can be here for one another. We will keep this going, and welcome all. Let’s share some poems, talk about books and projects, and what we’re feeling these days. 8:30 PM Monday evenings, on Zoom.
Monday May 25: Lehigh Valley Poetry Virtual Salon and Open Mic
Find out more information about the LVP Anthology, and what is going on at Lehigh Valley Poetry. We are hoping to create a collection this summer of submitted poems, celebrating the Lehigh Valley Poetry community, but also beyond. We will need to talk this out, so stay tuned. Open mic, per usual, and check in. Community matters. Mondays, 8:30 EST. On Zoom.
Check back here for June, and be sure to check out our Facebook page’s events listings for all of these. June 1,8,15,22, and 29.
